Pat Quigley, MSW

We are deeply grateful for all we have learned from our dear teacher and mentor, Pat Quigley.

Rebecca was a student in Pat's IBP training group starting in 2005, and she has been a valued teacher, therapist, and mentor over many years. From Pat, one learns a deep trust in the innate wisdom of the body.

Pat was instrumental in bringing life to IBP in Alberta. In 1984, Marjorie Rand, one of the authors of “Body, Self, and Soul” accepted an invitation to come to Calgary, and Pat and a group of colleagues were among the first to train in IBP with her. This first group also brought Tom Paris, Beth Bardovi, Jack Rosenberg, Beverly Kitaen-Morse, and others to teach them IBP over the next seven years. In 1988, Pat and Carol Hechtenthal co-founded IBP Calgary. Pat also co-taught with Marjorie Rand at the first IBP training at the Pacific Northwest IBP Institute on Vancouver Island.

For more than 35 years, Pat has been teaching the IBP model to clients and student practitioners. Pat used the model in Calgary in her private practice as well as at a public counselling agency, where she was also involved in developing a program for trauma survivors. Pat was involved in IBP Alberta as a director and teacher until 2012, when a move took her to Nelson, BC. There, she offered both IBP sessions in her private practice, and several IBP trainings to local residents. After several years in Nelson, Pat returned to Calgary, where she aspired to complete one more student and teacher training before her retirement. We have been honoured to be mentored as teachers in this training.

To watch Pat lead a teacher training or an individual session is to see a warm and open heart, and to witness the embodied wisdom that comes from teaching and living the IBP model. Pat's love for the IBP model, alongside her own path of yoga, meditation, and spiritual practice has brought IBP to life for many.
